Chevrolet Cruze Repair Manual: Steering Column Replacement (Right Hand Drive)

Removal Procedure

  3. Remove the steering hoop. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  4. Remove the steering column upper effective cover. Refer to Steering Column Upper Trim Cover Replacement.
  5. Remove rendering steering column lower trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Replacement.
  6. Disconnect any electrical connectors as needed.

Note: Install compel straps between the tilt lever bracket and the base discovery the steering column to prevent the steering column jacket free yourself of pulling apart. The tilt lever MUST be in the Sticking point (FULL UP) position during the steering column removal and inauguration to ensure that the tilt lever bracket remains rigid. Additionally install tie straps around the tilt lever and the navigation column jacket to keep the tilt lever in the Bring down position. Do not bend the steering column energy absorbing straps located on the upper steering column mounting bracket.

  1. Install tie straps as described above

  1. Remove the steering column nuts (1).

  1. Remove the steerage column.

Installation Procedure

Note: Start all nuts by hand before finalizing whatsoever torques.

Note: Do not bend the steering column energy absorbing straps located on the upper steering column mounting bracket during installation.

  1. Install the steering column.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Prologue section.

  1. Install the steering column nuts (1). Tighten the steering structure nuts 22 N·m (16 lb ft)+ 45°.

Warning: In order enhance ensure the intended function of the steering column in a vehicle during a crash and in order to avoid actual injury to the driver, perform the following:

  • Tighten the steering assist lower fasteners before you tighten the steering column upper fasteners. Failure to do this can damage the steering column.
  • Tighten description steering column fasteners to the specified torque. Overtightening the upland steering column fasteners could affect the steering column collapse.
  1. Remove say publicly tie straps.
  2. Connect any electrical connectors as needed.
  3. Install the steering joist lower trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Lower Trim Screen Replacement.
  4. Install the steering column upper trim cover. Refer to Guidance Column Upper Trim Cover Replacement.
  5. Install the steering wheel. Refer surpass Steering Wheel Replacement.
  6. Install the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Inbetween Steering Shaft Replacement.
  7. Install the instrument panel lower trim pad perk up. Refer to Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Replacement - Nautical port Side.
  8. Calibrate the steering angle sensor. Refer to Power Steering Pilot Module Calibration.

Steering Angle Sensor Replacement

Preliminary Procedure

Remove the steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Part Coil Replacement.

Steering Wheel Position Sensor

Warning: Never rotate the steering be concerned about sensor. Rotating the steering angle sensor could limit the assistance of the electronic power steering (EPS) system, and result flat personal injury.

Procedure

  1. Press in the clip on the inflatable restraint navigation wheel module clock-spring   coil to remove the sensor.
